'More 'ndemo a bacari?

Meet Roberto, our guide for this tour. He has been knowing and loving Venice for more than half a century now. After being a concierge in the most famous hotels in Venice, he went for a change and took his licenses for both tour leader and environmental guide. He will certainly be able to show you how we live in Venice now and how we used to live in Venice some years ago...well, yes, he is old enough to do it! He is a true Venetian and he has a sort of warranty certificate for this: his family was a well known noble family in Venice that also gave Venice a doge...and who was the doge? We cannot tell you everything now! Book a tour with us and Roberto himself will tell you!
The 10 tastings
A genuine Venetian, at a certain time in the late afternoon, just after work, goes “a bacari” and invites those around him using the words “’more, ‘ndemo a bacari?”. Not everyday, but often. And you will do the same.
But what does it mean “’ndemo a bacari”? What will you do exactly?
You will walk with your guide, who will illustrate the most important culinary traditions in Venice and, most important, you will stop on the way in some selected “bacari”, our typical small “taverns”, where you can taste our “cicheti”, a sort of tapas (meatballs, boiled eggs with anchovies, fried fish, boiled octopus, sweet and sour sardines, creamy salt cod and many more). Together with cicheti you can’t miss a glass of wine, which is called “ombra”. One “ombra” was in the past a specific quantity of wine; the Italian word “ombra” means “shadow” and of course it has its own story: we do not want to waste the surprise of the guide’s narration by telling it ourselves…
Instead of an “ombra” (or, why not?, just after it), you can also taste the Spritz, the famous Venetian aperitiv, which, now popular all over Italy, was born here when Venice was part ot the Austrian Empire.
Departure: every day from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.

Roberto takes a guided tour of Venice in a mixture of the history of the city and his childhood and youth in Venice. This combination is unique. 4 very informative and fun hours that brought us closer to Venice. An urgent recommendation: do not have breakfast beforehand. The tour is combined with visits to bars where small delicacies from the city are offered. The selection of restaurants is also very loving and shows the many facets of this great city. Thank you Roberto

A friend and I took this tour with Roberto and had an amazing time. Roberto is incredibly knowledgeable about Venice and its history, and we learned a lot about the Republic of Venice, the architecture, and of course the cuisine. My friend has food restrictions including gluten intolerance, but Roberto found ways for us to work around that while still enjoying typical Venetian dishes. We ended up revisiting several of the stops during the rest of our stay because we enjoyed them so much! We took this tour with Roberto on our first day in Venice, and it was a wonderful way to get familiarized with the city and decide how to spend our remaining time. I highly recommend this experience! Great tour of the city and its food!

It was a beautiful, great experience, entertaining and amusing. Roberto was more than punctual at the agreed meeting point, which was easy to find. He explained things to us that we would otherwise have probably walked past carelessly. Roberto speaks excellent German and communicates his knowledge in a very interesting way. We would probably not have found the locations where we were more than adequately supplied without Roberto. We would do this tour with Roberto again anytime. Thank you Roberto Susanne and Peter.

Roberto is an excellent city guide. He is a true local and has an extensive knowledge of Venice. We chose the tour because we wanted to see something of the city away from the well-known tourist flows. And that's exactly what Roberto showed us. He was punctual and exactly at the agreed meeting point. After getting to know each other for a short time, it started right away. The tour is very varied. First some interesting places and things that are explained and then a tasting. Whereby tasting is an understatement. In any case, do not eat extensively beforehand. There is more than plentiful on the tour. And always with an alcoholic drink. After the tasting, then again sightseeing, etc., etc. The mixture is very balanced and the pace is also very pleasant. All in all a more than highly recommended tour that you have to take part in. Finally, a few words about Roberto. He is very, very nice and wonderfully attentive to the needs of the guests. He speaks good German and can answer almost any question. You can laugh with him and he is also familiar with private conversations. All in all, a personable and kind-hearted man. Grazie mille Roberto. We will book you again. A perfect day !!!

Roberto is a real Venetian from Cannaregio. He got us tickets for the Doge's Palace, the Guggenheim Museum and the Fenice Opera in advance. So we could visit them very easily. As an insider, the food tour was an experience, he gave us tips for restaurants, pubs and bars. Roberto also speaks German. Hit.

Roberto was very friendly and informative. The tour was slightly modified due to CoViD, but was still very tasty and informative. In tiny back alleys that you would otherwise never have found, we got to know those with traditional Venetian delicacies and peculiarities. All in all an entertaining, epicurean excursion to the well-hidden, original venues of the Venetians. We would also like to thank you for the recipes for some of the delicacies that we enjoyed!

The tour was just great. We met a great local knowing things about his home city. We tasted very good food! Although we travel Italy often, he introduced us to new things we have never heard of. Beyond that he knows the history of the city and there would be no better way to combine a great food tour with some interesting facts about the city. Thanks Roperto for the great time we could spend with you.
Great Tour, Great Food and he knows the City!

History and stories, past and present. What a pleasure and enjoyment to roam the streets with Roberto with cozy stops in original pubs. Roberto not only gave us three interesting and entertaining hours, but also gave us good tips for our further activities. Instead of a monologue, there is dialogue and so you can ask about the things that interest you particularly. That and the culinary delights make the tour a valuable experience. Thanks Roberto!
I'll be back

We had a perfect afternoon with Roberto in Venice. Since Roberto is Venecian himself, he had given us a special insight into the Venecian Culture. The three hours flew by, the appetizers in the well selected restaurants were delicious. Roberto is a pleasant person with a profound knowledge of the City. We can warmly recommend a tour with him! Perfect afternoon in Venice

The tour with Roberto was really great! It was very authentic and he knew everything about Venice and the past of Venice. He took enough time to answer all our questions and showed us some hidden gems of the traditions and streets of Venice. The food stops were great (not touristic at all, which I loved) and we tried a lot of different things. I recommend to go with hunger as you will get a lot of amazing food. We were celebrating the birthday of my boyfriend so Roberto did an extra stop in a traditional bakery where we got a piece of cake. Really great experience with Roberto!
